Why is it important to make your events experiential?

Why is it important to make your events experiential?

There are many reasons why it’s important to make your events experiential, but here are a few:

  • Experiential marketing is memorable and generates brand recognition. If a potential has interacted with your hashtag through one of their social media channels, they are much more likely to be loyal to your brand.
  • Using social media at your experiential event allows users to generate content about your brand and interact with you online.

  • Using social media such as Instagram, Twitter or Vine is a low-cost way to launch a new product to a much larger audience. The total outreach of people tweeting and Instagramming about your new product (at a launch party for example) will have be much greater by involving future customers
  • Experiential marketing with social media enables you to utilise everyone who is talking about your brand online as a brand representative.

  • Competitions on platforms such as Instagram or Vine can provide perfect opportunities to capture customer information and give the ability to communicate with them after the event.
  • When done properly, experiential marketing can encourage customer trial.

O2 Think Big & Eventstagram

O2 Think Big & their CSR Live Social Media Feed

During October, Eventstagram was able to get involved with the brilliant initiative, O2 Think Big. This project is all about supporting people & the planet by working together and encouraging fresh ideas on how everyone can improve the world around us.

O2 decided on having a national Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) day where all their staff got involved and decided to #BeMore Good for a day! O2 staff documented their good deeds throughout the day on Instagram and Twitter and then shared this across all of the O2 offices nationally with a live Instagram and Twitter feed. This feed was also updated during the day in a number of O2 shops across the country.

Here is a screenshot of the real-time social media feed that was displayed in the offices. It was completely branded up with O2 Think Big's designs. There was also a live counter of how many good deeds had been uploaded with the hashtag #BeMore.

Alongside the white label design completed for this big CSR day, Eventstagram also designed a live web widget so that all of the internal call center staff could see the photos too. O2 ran a competition with their north and south offices of who could complete the most good deeds of the day. This type of initiative is also perfect for employer branding campaigns, particularly when on a recruitment round.

Here is a screengrab of the live web widget.

How to use Instagram and Twitter live feeds at events in London

How to use Instagram and Twitter live feeds at events in London

London is the perfect place for a live real-time Instagram and Twitter feed; whether it’s a product launch, a conference or a festival!

Some case studies of using a live photo slideshow in London

A great example of using an interactive Instagram and Twitter photo feed at an experiential product launch in London can be seen with the Clinique launch of their Yellow moisturiser. Eventstagram used their real-time photo slideshow at this event and although there were only 200 guests at this London event, photobooth style branded print outs of their social media photos, as well as seeing their images and videos up on an interactive screen, encouraged hundreds of photos to be taken and shared. These went viral amongst the guests network and the hashtag ended up trending on social media in London!

How the AIDS LifeCycle bike ride used an Instagram and Twitter Slideshow for their Charity Event

A photo prop is a great way to increase user generated content

A perfect example of how to bring a crowd together and use an Instagram and Twitter slideshow at a big charity event can be seen with the AIDS LifeCycle SF to LA bike ride. This is 7-day bike ride charity event from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. By using a real-time Instagram slideshow and Twitter photo feed this landmark charity bike ride through beautiful California provided an interactive experiential event to thousands of participants from all over the world. Instagram and Twitter photos were shared on social media and streamed live onto big screens at the end of the race. Fans, family, friends and the rest of the crowd could then instantly see photos of the participants crossing the finish line in San Francisco.

Casio's G-Shock Instagram Wall in New York

A live Instagram wall is a great way to entertain your guests and increase social media exposure at the same time. This is perfect for large events in New York, as can be seen with Casio’s 50 year G-shock celebration!

Here, they used a custom-designed Instagram feed and Twitter photo slideshow to interact with their fans and entertain the crowds alongside an Eminem concert in Manhattan, New York. Following the success of this, Casio have installed an in-store live social media photo slideshow in their Soho store in New York!

Campus Party & Eventstagram

What is Campus Party?

Campus Party (CP) is an annual week-long, 24 hour a day technology festival and LAN Party. Thousands of hackers, developers, gamers and geeks equipped with laptops camp out in tents on-site for the conference and hackathon.

However Campus Party is also for entrepreneurs, DJs, business transformers and amateur astronomers - anyone looking to solve a problem with technology. Therefore, needless to say, the O2 was filled with fascinating people!

Our favourite moments included watching keynotes such as Vint Cerf, the Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google, with his discussion on the ‘internet of things’. Whilst seemingly sci-fi, the things he was discussing are actually in progress! Here is him photographed with melissa@eventstagr.am !!

During women in tech day, Mitchell Baker, leader of the Mozilla Project was incredibly passionate about her field and the extremely inspirational female leader, Julie Meyer, of Ariadne Capital gave a brilliant quote:

“Entrepreneurs are willing to live abnormal lives” - Julie Meyer

Here you can see the screens that were playing Eventstagram’s live social media feeds of the events (images which were uploaded onto Instagram and Twitter by the crowd, hashtagged with #cpeurope and then streamed directly onto the big screen) before and in between the speakers.
